Split payments

Learn how to split payments to purchase items greater than your On Me card balance

We’re here to help you use the full value of your gift card! You can make a purchase greater than your On Me card balance in a few ways. Some stores allow you to split payments, giving you the flexibility to use multiple cards or mix payment methods. For those that don't, you can increase your card balance up to the $500 card balance maximum.

🏪 Shopping in-store and online

First, check your gift card balance, either online or in the Cards tab in the On Me app. If your balance doesn't cover the full amount due at checkout, that's ok! You have a few easy options:

  • If you're shopping in-person, tell the cashier you'd like to split the payment:
    • Use your On Me gift card for the first payment
    • Then, pay the remaining balance with another supported payment method — credit card, debit card, cash, or even another On Me gift card!
  • Increase your card balance to the value of your purchase (up to $500), then checkout with your new card details or mobile wallet card.

🏪 Calling the brand's customer service

For some brands, their website or brick-and-mortar stores don't support split payments, but you may be able to complete your order by ordering over the phone. Call the brand's customer service line and ask the representative if it's possible to do a split payment over the phone. If it's possible, provide your On Me card number details and your On Me card balance, then provide your other payment method(s).

Unsupported brands

Some brands don't support split payments at all, including:

  • American Airlines
  • Nordstrom
  • Bloomingdale's

In this case, your only option is to make a purchase smaller than or equal to your balance, or increase your On Me card balance up to the $500 card balance maximum.

Let us know if another brand doesn't accept split payments and should be on this list.
